Wigan will fight against Chelsea!!

Wigan Right-Back Mario Melchiot: We Will Give Chelsea All They Can Handle On Sunday!

Wigan Athletic defender Mario Melchiot believes that his team will make Chelsea fight to win the Premier League on Sunday.

The Blues will clinch the title with a victory over the Latics at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, but Melchiot has warned his former club that defeating Wigan is not as easy as it used to be for the big clubs.

With impressive victories Liverpool and Arsenal and Chelsea this season, Wigan has proven that they are capable of defeating the top teams in the Premier League.
“Last season, if the big boys like Chelsea, United and Arsenal were playing against teams below tenth spot in the league, they knew it wouldn’t be difficult,” Melchiot told The Mirror.

“Now it’s getting harder. They know now when they turn up and play against us that we can compete with them.

“That’s one of the good things for us from the season - and one of the harder things for them to take.

“You look at the teams we’ve beaten like Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, and take all the stuff we’ve done. I think it’s looking really good for us.

“The Premier League has been very exciting this season. Everybody can beat each other and that’s a situation that’s developing all the time.”

Wigan handed the Blues their first Premier League loss of the season when they beat Chelsea 3-1 at the DW Stadium in September and will look to repeat that result and end their season on a high note.

Who Are the All Time Greatest Chelsea Players?

Chelsea's Great Players:

A great number of football legends wore the Chelsea blue and plied their trade at the famous Stamford Bridge football ground. Chelsea are now one of the most successful teams in the English Premier League. The club was bought by Russian millionaire Roman Abramovich in 2003 which has led to an influx of great international stars. But who are the fans all time favourites? Here are a few suggestions.

Peter Osgood. 380 First team appearances - 150 goals
Peter Osgood had two spells for the club - 1964 - 74 and 1978 - 79. He played a total of 635 times for Chelsea and is cosidered a legend at the club. He scored a header goal in the 1970 FA cup final replay.

Ron Harris. 795 appearances - 14 goals
Known as 'Chopper' Harris, the hard man defender was an integral part of the team during the sixties and seventies. Feared by strikers throughout the land.

Frank Lampard - Still playing for Chelsea
Frank Lampard forged his reputation as the best midfielder in England through consistently strong displays in a Chelsea shirt. Also a prolific goal scorer, Lampard usually nets about 20 per season.

Gianfranco Zola - 312 total appearances - 80 goals
A firm favourite with the fans. the small but perfectly formed Zola was instrumental in winning big games at the Bridge. An odds on favourite to manage the Blues one day.

Didier Drogba - Still playing for Chelsea
Perhaps not a true blue legend and not always a favourite with the fans. Drogba's goal tally put him up there with the best.

The History Of Chelsea FC

What do you think about Chelsea FC?

Chelsea football club are one of the top sides of the English Premier League. They are the play thing of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and in recent times his money has brought the club success. They are a London team that is based at the Stamford Bridge football stadium. They are currently managed by Brazilian Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Owner Roman Abramovich is someone that wants the best in everything he does and so since his arrival at Stamford Bridge if you don't perform you are out! The most successful times in the history of Chelsea FC came under the reign of Jose Maurinho who stayed with the club for a 2-3 year period. He claimed 2 domestic titles for the club in successive seasons and made 2 Champions League semi finals. Unfortunately disagreements between Maurinho and Abramovich lead to his departure.

Abramovich purchased Chelsea back in 2003 in a deal worth £140 million. The club had debts of around £80 million which Abramovich was to write off once the deal had gone through. At the time Chelsea were one of the better sides in English football but were still a fair way off the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool. Abramovich appointed manager Jose Maurinho who was the current Champions League champion with FC Porto and together they planned to make Chelsea into something special.

Abramovich wanted up and coming players, not superstars and it was this idea that lead Chelsea to success. Along with the takeover Abramovich purchased Juan Sebastian Veron from Manchester United for £15 million, Claude Makelele from Real Madrid for £14 million, Damien Duff from Blackburn Rovers for £17 million and Joe Cole and Glen Johnson from West Ham for £6.6 million and £6 million. That is a shopping bill of around £110 million.

But the plan worked. In the first season under new control Chelsea dominated the English Premier League and went on to take two straight domestic titles and did it in style. They have been a footballing superpower ever since. The UEFA Champions League title is now the prize that Abramovich lusts after. It is the one title that eludes him and he will do everything in his power get this.
